here was once a great man, a political leader, who was respected and highly regarded in his profession. He played the political field safe; yet, his sexual inclinations were quite provocative. After a series of sexually crude incidents, the country was well aware of his agenda. This man was President William Jefferson Clinton: democrat and glorified cigar-smoker.

ary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's collection for Spring 2012 established an ideal image of the effortlessly elegant woman, by utilizing light fabrics, slender silhouettes, and a thoroughly cool, hushed, and pacific palette of primarily white, mint green, and the occasional off-white hue. Seemingly simple slips were juxtaposed and complemented with layered pants. These loose-fitting pants, as well as the flat sandals, are to be seen in many a fashion editor's armoire.

The collection, with its Tibetan influence and its color story, was like a "breath of fresh air": ethereal, minimalist, cool. It established a most refreshing, elegant Asian aesthetic, through the thoughtful utilization of billowing silhouettes, layered pants, intricate embroidery, and tassel embellishments.

s the grand lobby doors of Plaza Indonesia slide open, the first that one notices are the words, Fashion Story(ies), in large, shocking pink letters, behind which are rows of strategically placed works of fashion photography. In collaboration with the Polka Galerie, Centre Culturel Français (CCF) exposes Jakarta to another side of fashion that very few have had the chance to witness, as part of the seventh annual Printemps Français. The exhibition showcases the essence of the art of fashion through the lenses of four magnificent photographers, each with their own point of view.

he Balenciaga Spring 2012 Menswear collection demonstrated a successful employment of color-blocking: the juxtaposition of various cool colors, such as aqua, midnight green, vanilla, white, charcoal, and platinum grey, established a thorough, muted palette, only to be complemented by the occasional burst of vibrant burgundy. The boxy fit and the scientifically precise cutting on the structured coats and jackets gave further definition to the strict meticulousness of the collection, while fitted, tapering trousers completed the sleek, lean look. This collection also featured a pair of sweaters angularly cut across the shoulders by color, and a set of textured, platinum coats, which lent the collection a sense of luxury.

he Armani man is sophisticated, masculine, and mysterious; this season's menswear collection was no exception, despite its namesake, "Printwear." The mystique of the sleek, Italian gentleman was undisturbed: the prints employed were in fact so subtle, that one might not even consider them prints when juxtaposed alongside those from the likes of Versace and Marni. The monochromatic tone of the show was dominated by cobalt, silver, navy, white, and slate grey; the cool palette was complemented by the light tailoring of the suits.
